What’s new on Goa’s tiatr scene this October

October 2025 sees an exciting lineup of new shows for tiatr enthusiasts

The month of October sees the release of a variety of 'tiatrs' from stalwarts like Prince Jacob and Comedian Sally, alongside promising works from debutant directors making their mark on the Konkani stage

With the season of monsoon releases concluding in September, tiatr directors have shifted their focus to October premieres, which run all the way up to the Carnival festivities.

This period marks the longest and most rewarding phase for tiatr directors, actors, musicians and technicians – both on and off the stage – as performances take place not only in cities, but also prominently in villages, with many shows having been booked well in advance.

From October to February, villages come alive with the celebration of various feasts in their churches and chapels, each festivity traditionally culminating in the staging of a tiatr. As a prelude to the evening performance, villagers often organise spirited football matches and lively cultural programs, adding to the festive atmosphere and community spirit.

TIATR NOTES

Among all the tiatr directors, Prince Jacob’s new production, Fatima Saibinn Bhorvanxeachi Maim, will revolve around a religious theme, with its primary focus on the Blessed Virgin Mary. His previous tiatr, Sant Padre Pio, was well-received by audiences, garnering a positive response in both cities and villages.

In addition to deepening their understanding of the Capuchin priest, tiatr enthusiasts were enthralled by the exquisite stagecraft, captivating performances, and the artful integration of comedy throughout the production. This time, the anticipation and expectations of the audience are bound to be even higher.

As always, while Roseferns advances with his 107th production, Bhirant Asa, Loz Nam, he brings a fresh and distinctive touch through his signature style of writing and direction.

Following a period of illness, comedian Dominic had taken a break and stayed away from the tiatr stage for quite some time. But, this October, he makes a comeback as writer and director. He is also roping in his brother, comedian Luis Bachan, who was with him during his earlier productions, to provide the required boost and backing.

In the realm of tiatr, a few notable couples have chosen to journey together artistically, presenting their productions as joint ventures. Among these creative partnerships are PeteRoshan, JosEvon, Wilmix-Sharon, Aleixin de Morjim and Lona, who have each left a distinct mark through their collaborative efforts.

Joining this esteemed league, Milagres and Crista now take the stage as a husband-wife duo with their tiatr, Ragak Dolle Nant. As the curtain rises, audiences keenly await the fresh perspective and synergy this new pairing promises to deliver.
