Vasco’s garbage crisis deepens; MMC adopts windrow technology

The MMC has been using chemicals to control foul odours following the shutdown of the Saligao plant

MMC Chief Officer Siddhivinayak S Naik said 18-20 metric tonnes of wet waste were sent to Saligao daily before the plant shut down. Chemicals are now being sprayed to reduce foul odour by around 50%, while chicken and meat waste are handled separately. He said windrow technology can be used effectively if Kakoda accepts the waste, though some odour is natural during waste turning.
