Nitin Gadkari highlights bio-bitumen from agricultural waste, Rs 1,078 crore approved for Gujarat roads, and Tamil Nadu braces for heavy rain as Bay of Bengal depression intensifies


  1. On Wednesday, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari emphasised the potential of converting agricultural waste into a valuable national resource, describing bio‑bitumen as a key step towards India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. He was speaking at CSIR’s Technology Transfer Ceremony titled 'From Farm Residue to Road: Bio-Bitumen via Pyrolysis'.

  2. The central government has sanctioned Rs 1,078.13 crore from the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for several major road projects in Gujarat, following a high-level review in Gandhinagar on 25 November 2025 with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari.

  3. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has reported that a well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression, moving west-northwest at around 18 kmph. The system is expected to strengthen into a deep depression within the next 15 hours, raising the likelihood of widespread rainfall and rough seas along parts of the Tamil Nadu coast. A yellow alert has been issued for Ramanathapuram, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, and Karaikal districts on Thursday and Friday, warning of heavy rainfall at isolated locations.
