The Supreme Court on August 24 declined to list Tarun Tejpal's appeal without first deciding his plea seeking exemption from surrender.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta opposed the request, citing the mandatory surrender requirement under Supreme Court Rules, while Tejpal's counsel Kapil Sibal sought exemption. As Sibal did not argue the plea on merits, the court listed it for hearing today, 25 August 2026.
