Fishermen question functioning of vessel transponders

Coutband Fisheries Co-op questions non-functional vessel transponders, seeks clarity on safety measures

The Coutband Fisheries Co-operative Society has questioned the functioning of transponders installed on fishing vessels for tracking and safety. Chairman Savio D'Silva sought clarity from the Goa Directorate of Fisheries on why the devices are reportedly not operational, along with details on their functionality, maintenance, government expenditure and any alternative tracking system in use.

Over 287 transponders installed at Cutbona Jetty are currently being removed, while the society has urged authorities to ensure an effective vessel tracking system for safety and emergency response.
