Congress, fishermen warn of agitation over 30-year lease of Baina Beach

The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) has plans to lease Baina Beach for a period of 30 years

The Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) has invited expressions of interest to lease Baina Beach for 30 years, triggering opposition from Congress MP Capt Viriato Fernandes and fishermen's leader Olencio Simoes.

Viriato said Congress would not allow the privatisation of beaches, while Simoes warned that fishermen from across Goa would march to the MPA and halt port operations.
