BRICS Ocean & Polar Science meeting underway in Goa

The meeting brings scientists together to deepen global research collaboration

As part of India's BRICS Presidency 2026, the 8th meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Ocean and Polar Science and Technology is being held in Goa from August 12 to 14. 


Hosted by NCPOR under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, the meeting has brought together scientists and officials from Brazil, China, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, the UAE and India. Vice-Chancellor, Atria University and former Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, delivered a keynote address on ‘India's Blue Economy Initiatives’.


During the meet, discussions focus on scientific cooperation, joint research, capacity building, ocean exploration, polar studies and shared research infrastructure.
