Bolero Boys Win Football, Sandeep & Stanley TT Champs

Navelim’s Bolero Boys clinch St Anthony Trophy


Bolero Boys, Navelim, edged past Wembley Boys, Fatorda, 7-6 in a tense tie-breaker to win the 4th All-Goa 5-a-side Football Cup, organised by St Anthony Boys of Agalli, recently at the Government Multipurpose School ground in Borda, Margao.


The final, played under floodlights and witnessed by a large crowd, ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw at full time. In the ensuing tie-breaker, Bolero Boys emerged as the more accurate shooters.


Chief guest, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat, presented the prizes in the presence of the BJP State President Damu Naik, Margao Municipal Council Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar, Vice Chairperson Babita Naik, councillors Yogiraj Kamat, Milagrina Gomes, Sadanand Naik, Raju Naik, Sweta Lotlikar, Camilo Barreto, Mahesh Amonkar, Paresh Natekar, and club officials.


Footballers Clencio Pinto and Sebastiao Furtado, along with Goa Football Development Council members Agnelo Noronha, Milagres Soares, Gregory Dias and Peter Fernandes, were felicitated on the occasion.


Sandeep, Stanley emerge Masters’ champs in TT tourney


At the 7th Dr Filipe Pinto Memorial All-Goa Table Tennis Tournament, held recently at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Miramar, Panjim, Sandeep D’Mello and Stanley Remedios claimed the title in the Masters category, while Amitav Neupane and Anup Mopkar emerged champions in the Elite category.


The event was organised by Kabir Pinto Makhija under the aegis of the Goa Table Tennis Association.


In the Masters final, Sandeep D’Mello and Stanley Remedios defeated Niraj Kannure and Marvando Mascarenhas 3-1. Earlier in the semi-finals, Niraj and Marvando overcame Suneet D’Mello and Faranak Braganza 3-1, while Sandeep and Stanley edged past Amit Naik and Dr Brennan Tavares in a close 3-2 contest.


In the quarter-finals, Suneet D’Mello and Faranak Braganza edged past Sanjoth S and Leslie Noronha 3-2, while Niraj Kannure and Marvando Mascarenhas registered a convincing 3-0 win over Munir Khan and Anthony Mendes. Amit and Dr Brennan Tavares outplayed Shawn Soares and Rajendra Parsekar 3-1, while Sandeep D’Mello along with Stanley Remedios prevailed in a tight 3-2 battle against Bonny D’Costa and Shirish Patil.


In the Elite final, Amitav Neupane and Anup Mopkar outsmarted Vipin Makhwana and Robert Rodrigues with a 3-1 victory.


Earlier in the semi-finals, Amitav and Anup defeated Hemant Ramani and John Pinto 3-1, while Vipin and Robert edged past Tanay Kaisare and Rakesh Unny in a closely fought 3-2 match.


In the quarter-finals, Amitav and Anup got the better of Laxmi Mendes and Guruprasad Namshikar 3-1; Hemant and John overcame Vinay Sakhardande and Roselyn Bunyan 3-1; Vipin and Robert narrowly beat John Xavier and Vijay Shetye 3-2; and Tanay and Rakesh secured a 3-2 win over Amogh Namshikar and Prasanna Bhandagi.
